Aah Barcelona - what a city of multiple facets. She is steeped in history, boasts the most amazing architecture but is so limited in many aspects of beauty - of what we are used to in South Africa.
I keep reminding myself that Cape Town is not reflective of the country as a whole but merely a minuscule part of the country - an oasis in the desert if you think about it. I think the world sees Barcelona as the city that never sleeps, the city of art and architecture.
Discover this temporary home
“We were reminded of this visiting Picasso’s museum and the exquisite architecture on every street. In every way we are striving to see everything we can, run, ride and walk to discover this temporary home.”
Reality Check
However in reality as long time residents in this city and as people who are not visiting and staying in 5 star accommodation and frequenting the myriad of well branded shops with the ever electrifying strip of Las Ramblas - we end up experiencing the good, the bad and the ugly.
British Bergies
“Wake up man she screamed I am not a man I am a woman!!.”
A recent humorous experience with a British woman we would commonly refer to as a bergie who chose to move in below our front entrance and hurl fragrant epiphanies at passing tourists until early hours of the morning. When exhausted from lack of sleep as we passed her Kevin stated Wake up man she screamed I am not a man I am a woman!! - this did make my day. Our street people are a lot quieter and better behaved.
We discovered the ultimate view point 5km away in the form of a well known, much visited bunker and decided getting there by foot was the best way to discover the city and while the views were panoramic it lacks the beauty of a simple lions head.
Yes Barcelona you magical city
You continue to amaze and delight me and while we are en route to our perceived nirvana, Croatia- our reason for this truly marvellous journey- you unfortunately cannot compare with the absolute beauty of Cape Town!
